Art Babes- Open Studio

Cyrah facilitated an open studio in which students will explore ways in which artists use adornment to establish personal and social identity. The workshop will explore cosmetic adornment, decorative arrangements of hair, and fashion to reflect upon students diverse cultural values and also relate to issues of self-definition.

Through the use of multi-medium artistic practices, including but not limited to, sewing, painting, knitting, and crocheting, students created their own “wearable sculptures” celebrating their personal exploration into the practice of embellishment and adornment.

Students reflected upon other femme identifying artists that make work from this space, including Monica Canillo and Tiff Massey

The project will culminated with a portraiture series featuring students wearing the work made during the workshop.
